Community Guidelines

Last updated: 19 September 2026

This is a room for people building and selling digital products. Ask the questions you'd ask a friend who's a few steps ahead — what to charge, why a launch flopped, whether an idea is worth the week it'll take. Answer where you can.

The short version: be useful, be honest, and don't treat other members as an audience to sell to.

Who can post

Reading is open to members on a paid plan and anyone in an active trial. Posting and replying is for paid members only.

You must be 18 or over to post here. If you're under 18, please don't — the community isn't set up to keep you safe, and we'd rather say so than pretend otherwise.

What gets a post removed

  • Slurs, hate, or abuse aimed at a person or a group.
  • Harassment, pile-ons, or following someone around the room.
  • Sexual content, threats, or anything illegal.
  • Scams, get-rich-quick pitches, crypto, dropshipping, MLM, and "DM me for a secret method".
  • Recruiting members to another platform, product, service or community.
  • Pretending to be Obteno staff, or to be another member.
  • Someone else's personal information — theirs to share, not yours.

Being blunt isn't on that list. You can say an idea won't work, that a price is too high, or that something didn't work for you. Criticising an idea is fine. Going after the person isn't.

Saying Obteno didn't work for you

Allowed, and it stays up. If the tool let you down, say so here — we'd rather answer it in the open than have you find out we quietly deleted it.

If it's a billing problem or something we need account details for, email issac@obteno.com — not because the post isn't welcome, but because we can't fix an account in a public thread.

Links and promoting your product

You can link to your own product on Etsy, Gumroad, Whop, Payhip and Stan Store, plus anything on obteno.com. Other links are blocked, and so are shortened links like bit.ly, because a shortener hides where it actually goes.

One post with a link per week, per member. That's so the room stays a conversation rather than a noticeboard. Posts and replies without links are unlimited — nothing stops you sharing what you learned, what you charged, or what flopped.

No email addresses, phone numbers or private messaging

There are no private messages here, and posts can't contain email addresses or phone numbers. That's deliberate.

Almost every scam, pressure tactic and pitch that hurts someone in a community like this happens after the conversation moves somewhere nobody else can see it. Keeping everything in the open is the single most effective thing we can do to protect you, and it only works if there's no side door.

It does mean an honest "email me and I'll take a look" gets refused too. That's a real cost and we've accepted it.

Your name

You choose a display name the first time you post. Use whatever you're happy for other members to see — a first name or a handle is fine, and you don't have to use your real or full name.

You can't pick a name that suggests you work for Obteno, or that looks like someone else's. Names can't be changed afterwards, so that nobody can build trust as one person and continue as another. If you need yours changed, email support.

How moderation works

Every post is checked automatically before anyone else can see it. It usually takes a second or two. Occasionally you'll see your own post marked pending — that means the check hasn't finished, not that anything is wrong. Nobody else sees it until it clears.

If a post is refused, you'll be told, and you can rewrite it. We don't explain exactly which words triggered it, because that turns moderation into a puzzle to solve rather than a line to stay on.

Automatic checks get things wrong in both directions. If yours was refused unfairly, email issac@obteno.com and a human will look at it.

Reporting and blocking

Every post has a report button. Reports are private — the person you report is never told who reported them.

You can also block another member, which hides their posts and replies from you without telling them.

If you break the rules

Usually the post comes down and that's the end of it. For anything repeated, or serious on its own, you can be barred from posting.

Being barred from posting does not affect your subscription. You keep every tool you pay for, you keep your products, and you can still read the room. We won't take away something you paid for to settle a moderation dispute.

What happens to your posts

Your display name is visible to other members alongside everything you write. Your email address never is.

You can delete your own posts at any time. If you delete your Obteno account, your name is removed from the community and your posts are re-labelled Former member, so the conversations other people took part in still make sense. If you want your posts removed entirely as well, email support and say so.

Removed posts are kept internally for a period so we have a record behind any moderation decision that gets disputed.
